Screening dilute sources of rare earth elements for their circular recovery

چکیده

Metals, including rare earth elements (REE), are the cornerstone of our current and future low-carbon urban infrastructure. This study looks at different waste resources contaminated materials present in setting as REE sources. Wastes other dilute sources such incineration ashes, sediments, mine tailings not only essential achieving a circular, carbon-neutral economy but may be most realistic one. E-waste, being concentrated waste, faces serious reservations regarding handling large-scale facilities, this is generally landfilled. In study, we analyzed total concentrations pH desorption curves ten REE: Ferrochrome slag from South Africa, sediments retrieved form stormwater ponds Denmark, coal fly municipal solid (MSW) wood bottom ashes sewage sludge (ashes sources). After analyzing residues, found that retention pond promising ones. While have highest critical contents studied wastes, collected showed leachability. We can find Nd, Dy, Er – all sediments/soils near highways, bauxite residue. Overall, contain wastes water leachable REE. fact, up to 100% these room temperature low pH. Future resource extraction efforts should account for speciation contents. • Residual, end-of-life (contaminated) Extraction recovery take into complexation wastes. Stormwater acid temperature. Coal

Recovery and Separation of Rare Earth Elements Using Salmon Milt

Recycling rare earth elements (REEs) used in advanced materials such as Nd magnets is important for the efficient use of REE resources when the supply of several REEs is limited. In this work, the feasibility of using salmon milt for REE recovery and separation was examined, along with the identification of the binding site of REEs in salmon milt. Results showed that (i) salmon milt has a suffi...

Rare Earth Elements Profile

Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...

Dissolution of Rare Earth Elements from Coal Fly Ash Particles in a Dilute H2SO4 Solvent

Recently, the worldwide supply of rare earth element (REE) resources will be severely restricted. On the other hand, coal fly ash particles emitted from coal-fired electric power plants contain relatively high concentrations of REEs. The contents of REEs in coal fly ash are regularly several hundreds of ppmw. In order to extract and recover REEs from coal fly ash particles, as a first step, we ...

Rationally designed mineralization for selective recovery of the rare earth elements

The increasing demand for rare earth (RE) elements in advanced materials for permanent magnets, rechargeable batteries, catalysts and lamp phosphors necessitates environmentally friendly approaches for their recovery and separation. Here, we propose a mineralization concept for direct extraction of RE ions with Lamp (lanthanide ion mineralization peptide). In aqueous solution containing various...
